project 1 Mental illness as design

research: Statistics :

When does stereotyping and prejudice start?

  • Babies notice race as early as 3 – 6 months.1
  • Children start to apply stereotypes between the ages of 3 – 5.2
  • Even preschoolers use racist language intentionally.3
  • Elementary school students understand that stereotypes lead to discrimination.4
  • Everyone is susceptible to implicit biases.5,6
  • everything we learn as kids stay with us all our life. If we are taught about the prejudices of mental illness at a young age, than it will always stay with us. If teachers teach mental illness as a normal thing and non prejudice way, we can debunk the stigma of mental illness.

Paintings can get through viewers I feel the most easiest way. To show a display of what I mean, I will paint a scene of what. I feel will be strong in a way that will change the way people look at mental illness.
