Space+Materiality Assignment #6- Straw Polyhedrons

Assignment Description

In this assignment we created two 3D polyhedrons using linear materials and mechanical connectors such as yarn, metal pins, envelope pins, metal wire, flexible straws, thread & needle, etc.

I used straw and string to create my 3d polyhedrons. First, I cut the straw into even pieces and strung the the string through it to connect each piece. Then, I tied the ends of the string together to form the shape of the polyhedrons. The ends had to be secured tightly to maintain its form without falling apart. Through this exercise, I learned there are many other ways to connect pieces together to create a 3D object. I found it easier to create the polyhedrons with straw and string because the connected straws held its shape as long as the ends were tied tightly enough. Overall, I was satisfied with the end result because of how clean the edges appeared and how something as flimsy as straw and thin as string was able to hold the object together without any additional support.
