Integrated Seminar 1- Memory Box

In this memory box, I included objects and pictures that bring back memories of my childhood.

Family picture– The earliest memory included in this box is the picture on the right. It is a photo taken with my mom and sister on the street of our first home in New York. I remember always wearing pink and carrying around a mini hand bag everywhere I went. This photo was taken by my dad outside my old house when I was four years old. I still remember the streets of my old house and the mini grocery store that was directly across my home. If I were to go back and visit the place, it would be familiar with it but also somewhat foreign and disconnected from it.

1st grade class– The photo on the left is my class in the 1st grade on my birthday. It remember it was my birthday and my  teacher dismissed the class lesson early so my class and I were able to play games for the rest of the class. In elementary school, the best time was walking down the hallways with balloons and visiting other teachers to be given printed pencils and stickers in honor of your birthday. This photo reminds me of the joys of being a little kid.

Glasses– The glasses in the center are the first pair of glasses I began to wear more often. It reminds me of all the times my friends would ask me to try them on and take them from me. This was also when I began wearing them more regularly because I wasn’t able to see the notes written on the board or recognize people’s faces from afar without them in high-school. Without these glasses, the world was a blur.

Stickerbook-Underneath my glasses lies my sticker book from the 4th grade. My stick book is filled with pages of random collective stickers. Collecting and trading stickers was like at trend that went around in school, just like how collecting and trading silly bands was once a trend in elementary school. Now, I use the stickers to decorate letters or cover things up. The book brings me back nostalgic memories of sitting outside during recess with my close friends and flipping through the pages and filling up new pages as our collection grew and grew.

String– Below my glasses are string/floss I used to make bracelets with in the 5th grade. Seeing the string reminds me of the time I used to carry around a small box of string and a pair of scissors so I can make bracelets wherever I went. My friends and classmates used to always ask me to make them one, and it was also a trend to wear a stack of friendship bracelets around your wrist. Making these bracelets became a hobby and it help introduce me to making other things out of my hands such as knitting and crocheting. I still have around the box full of string because there is still so much that can be made out of it. I cannot bring myself to throw it out even after all these years.

School ID– I included a picture of my high school ID from senior year. In my school, we always had to have our IDs on us to enter the building and wander around in between classes. The ID instantly brings back so many memories of high school from the beginning to the end. I remember going through high school like a rhythm. My routine and attitude towards school was always the same, from when I started freshman year enthusiastic and excited and  ended senior year enlightened and ready for the next chapter of life.
