Assignment Description
The obsession I chose was aesthetics. I visited three places with aesthetics I was drawn to and enjoyed my spending time in. Through visiting these specific sites, I recorded a collection of visual and sensorial information. The purpose of this assignment was to experience our theme from multiple perspectives, and to begin to create an archive of inspiration and references.
Cafe Dupan
1st location
The first place I went to was called Cafe Dupan. I appreciated the decorations of the place and the warm toned theme of the cafe. There were many high school and college students sitting with their laptops and others who were just there to socialize. The cafe played mainly Korean music, and the atmosphere of the place was a very friendly and energetic one. The place was filled with lively conversation with both young and older customers enjoying their drinks.
Cafe de Flore
2nd location
The second place I went to was Cafe De Flore. This is the type of environment I would prefer studying in because of the relaxed atmosphere and sophisticated details throughout the entire interior of the place. I really liked the choice of wallpaper and framed decorations that were plastered across the brick walls. The small lights above each table complimented the overall aesthetic and theme of the cafe. The cafe was dimly lit, and more quiet than Cafe dupan. This cafe was a smaller than other cafes, giving the place a cozier and intimate atmosphere than an open, lively one.
Hudson River Waterfront Walkway/ Pier
3rd location
The third place I went to was the waterfront walkway across the Hudson River. During the night, there were less people and the sound of the waters were clearer. As I was walking down the walkway, I couldn’t help put pay attention to the lights wrapped around the trees and framed across the entrances of the nearby restaurants/bars. The lights and placement of decorations set a soothing and relaxed tone of the place and made the quiet walk enjoyable.
