Early Memory Sculpture

While exploring our past in our first class, I was asked to visualize early memories- something my teacher mentioned to think deeply about was a hiding place. I immediately began to draw a small desk and opening in my kitchen surrounded by drawers- the small space beneath the middle drawer was where I would sit and hide from the dark. In constructing this piece, I began building the small structure and painted it white. Along came there walls surrounding it, as I wanted someone to have to enter it visually. I added the small words hung above the white countertop, painting them the same color as the background so one would have to really look to read. The small wooden floors resemble that of my kitchen.
