Abstract Paper Piece

For our third project, Rachel asked us to do abstract designs working with minimal line work and color. We were to cut up large pieces of black and white paper into 6″x6″ squares, then cut/rip the black paper into strips for us to situate on the white paper. We were to design 9 of these squares that all had a similar theme; my theme was circles. Each of my small 6″x6″ squares contained a small accent of a circle somewhere because I enjoyed the round space it took up on each. It evoked a sort of calm in me and I wanted it to do the same for everyone else. Once we had created 9 themed squares, Rachel asked us to upload them to illustrator, make them black and white, and then print them so we could take the design process one step further. We could draw on them in pen or add more with paper, so I chose pen to give my geometric shapes more of an organic, natural feel. I let my hand guide the line and then I worked around that. I did a few designs with different thickness of line, so I uploaded a couple of my favorites along with the original.
