Reiteration: Blooming Flower

For my reiteration of my butterfly wings, I wanted to focus on the same concept of growth through transformation. It is important to me as I wanted to create something that would exemplify this idea. When initially brainstorming and working out brain maps, I kept going back to the archetype of nature because of the way it is constantly transforming and changing. Rather than focusing on animals or creatures in nature, I wanted to focus on actual plants. I began thinking of flowers and how they bloom, a derivative of transformation through growth. I wanted to make something wearable for the neck and I hoped to work with materials I had not yet worked with to improve my craftsman skills. Therefore, I knew I was going to be working with sheet metal, so I began to construct the shapes of the stiff petals that would make up layers of my blooming flower. I also cut out a pieces of sheet metal that I would later wrap with string to protect the neck from it’s sharp edges as someone would wear my piece. I conjoined my petals to the neck band by squeezing them together with pliers. I wanted longer petals that could come out under the sheet metal layers and magnet together to essentially cover/hide the layers of petals below. It would be indicative of a literal flower blooming as you could move the bigger petals to reveal the metal petals beneath. While some things I attempted did not work as great as I assumed it would, I still think it was partially successful in becoming what I wanted it to become.
