My zine concept was changed very late into my process. I was very excited to create my flip book but in the class before we presented it, I was advised to revise my book form. I agreed with the fact that the form didn’t fit the concept. But I worked very hard on laying out all the frames and spent a lot of time on photoshop and illustrator, to digitally create the flip book which I finished on my laptop. So when I had to redo my form, I decided to scrap my whole idea so that I could accomplish the zine and video by the same deadline. My zine became about snapchat. While snapchat is seen as this bright lovely app, I kept my book very dark and mysterious in a way because I have never been comfortable using snapchat and “sharing” things on snapchat. I usually send completely black, dark snaps in response to selfies I receive from my friends. Thats why I chose black. Its kind of this sinister lingering feeling. I started using snapchat memories in the last 4-5 months just to save pictures for myself and so every month I added my favorite pictures and highlighted one on top, in the format it shows in snapchat memories when you lightly press on a picture. I kept the hot pink from the memories tab and used the search button and “saved!” icons to add resemblance too. I took a lot of care in making the zine. I paid attention to physical detail. I wanted it to be professional and look nice and well constructed.

In my video, I revisited a very important memory in my life. I compiled videos I have of up north in Pakistan. It was a very important trip for me because it showed me a whole new side of Pakistan. It was a trip where I faced a lot of fears (fear of heights, fear of speed). It was also memorable because I was with my family and I miss them a lot while here in nyc. I sent them the video once I finished and they really loved it. It captures that trip very accurately. The song I added was a song we listened to a lot on the trip too so it brought back many memories instantly. I loved that trip and I love that memory I have of my home country. It is beautiful and peaceful.
