Step 1 – Idea Formation
Idea – A car that designed to maximize the interior space and functionality.
Questions – How would a car with high versatility would look like? Is it safe to be riding the car as a passenger?
Assumptions – Is it safe and legal to drive this car?
Step 2 – Research/Observations
- Cars were measured up in engine size or top speeds.
- Bellini wanted to changed how people see cars.
Step 3 – Sketches
- He wanted to design a car which interior is the main point.
- Design was difficult because people are used to seeing fast, low, powerful engine cars which Bellini’s car had more of a boxy shape.
- Pre-sketches how the car could be used in different ways showing the versatility
Step 4 – Questioning/Problem Solving
- Car was designed that the ceiling could come off and be replaced a different type.
- Car got a more stylistic shape making it little more eye catchy.
Step 5 – Finalizing Work
- Kar-a-Sutra only stayed as a concept car and ever produced (expect the prototype)
- Chassis was built by a collaboration with Citroen and Pirelli.
- Kar-a-Sutra was displayed at MoMA, New York in 1972 and got a big attention by the automative industry.
