LP Post No.1

“Fashion is gossip. Never underestimate the power of gossip. Semiologists are driven into ecstasies of supposition by whispers.”

When Christopher Breward wrote “Fashion is gossip. …” his aphorism meant that fashion trends can flow through the industry as fast as gossip flows through crowds of people. It is fast moving and constantly changing. I definitely agree with this aphorism because as a fashion admirer I see trends come and go. For example, as soon as dupes of high end clothing come out, there’s already a new collection coming to stores that everyone is waiting to buy/ waiting for fast fashion companies to copy and sell.

“Fashion is intensely personal, in the same way that poetry is intensely personal. it is a medium through which personal stories can be told, memories re-lived and futures foretold.”

Christopher Breward writing that “Fashion is intensely personal, in the same way that poetry is personal. …” means that an ensemble or piece of clothing designed by a person has inspirations and memories connected to it for the designer/ consumer the same way an article of poetry contains inspiration and memories for the author/ reader. I agree with the fact that fashion is personal. The piece you wear is personal to the designer who created it, what inspired them in the making of this ensemble? Also, I believe that what you choose to put on yourself is personal to YOU. How you decide to dress yourself, express yourself is salient to the side of yourself that you want to show to the world. That is very personal.
