fashion brand- Calvin Klein underwear campaign February 2019

Gender portrayal- The Calvin Klein newest underwear campaign advertisements definitely reinforce gender norms through the clothing. The female in the campaign is wearing a CK monogram bra with jeans (covering majority her body) while the two men in the campaign wear nothing besides underwear. This reinforces the gender norm of women needing to be more covered than men do/ more hidden. In my opinion fashion has gender and always will just because clothes are made differently for different bodies, BUT this doesn’t that we can’t wear the opposite genders clothing.

Fashion and Cultural Studies- Fashion negotiates and navigates through ambiguities and contradictions such as..  “embodying — simultaneously– gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality,class ,national identity, age/generation, place, and other “positions” that are themselves shifting through complex power relations;” (page 1).
