Obversion

For this project, Quinn and I created a headpiece representing the old and the new, and the differences between the two. We were inspired by 15th and 16th century clothing such as the dress that is shown below. The part where we chose to focus on is the lace collar which is called reticella.

Creating an augmented reality by combining fabrics from today and the late middle ages. Building a renovated version of the past with a futuristic perspective.

By using a reticella, a type of lace often used for these extravagant collars and dresses, we are referring to the old beauty and augmented reality of creating an illusion of wealth by wearing intricate fabrics. Transitioning to the future, we wanted to portray a more contemporary effect by using an unnatural looking material with the mesh look and the bright neon yellow color. The model will see through this yellow to create another form of virtual reality.

We were also inspired by the new and different forms of headpieces that are equally extravagant in today’s world to build a connection between the old and the new. We played with different shapes according to the wood we were given and to our inspirational headpieces. This way we were able to capture the feeling of back to the future.

We used wooden sticks, lace, tulle, screws and some super glue.
