In this activity, we were tasked with choosing items from our wardrobes to potentially upcycle. Furthermore, the items are going to be upcycled through the natural dye process.
In my wardrobe, I chose my collection of undershirts.
I chose these articles of clothing because of how old and worn out they are. I have used them for about two years and they have begun to display their wear and tear.
Before Shot Of Undershirt
Typically in my family, if we have an old piece of t-short clothing (jersey fabric) then we would cut them up into rags. These rags would go on to be used for glass cleaning, wood polishing, etc. However, for this assignment, we need to increase the value of the item (upcycle) rather than recycle it.
I could upcycle the shirt into a few products such as a…
- Pouch or drawstring bag – for carrying or storing things
- Base to embroider a project on – this could go on to be a work of art, decorative piece, pouch, etc.
- Headband
