For this week’s FA, we were tasked with taking compostable food items and depositing them at our local composting site.
Generally, I don’t have much food waste. With the values of my culture abhorrent towards the waste of food, I find that I am generally mindful of what I eat. However, I did find some wasted food most of which was from much earlier (about the scope of 2 weeks). The food I found was:
- Chicken Salad Sandwich – x1
- Bananas – x2
- Leftover Salad – x1
- Mini Cup of Israeli Salad – x1

After finding the food to be composted, I needed to find the composting site. There are many in the Manhattan Area, however, there were only a few open on Monday. With a quick google search, I found a compost site located at the Union Square Greenmarket.

I placed the items in a plastic bag and left to drop them off. The best way to get there from my accommodation was walking to the NRQ line at Penn Station and take it down to 14th Street at Union Square. Then I walked for one minute and found the Greenmarket (an open market selling fruits, vegetables, baked goods, and more).

Once at the market, I looked around for the drop-off area but I could not find it. Luckily, I asked the market guide to direct me to the compost drop off site. When I found it at 4:33 pm, I unloaded the items into the dumpster and left.
