Reflection:
After talking to Hee Eun, I was interested to see her outlook on my experience in that it was a more literal expression of healing. Hee Eun’s idea was to create a sculptural piece (a plate) that was put back together. At the cracks, she would put the colors of the different flags that made up my background. I found this to be interesting as I never thought about using a medium like that before. I always viewed my work as healing but I never thought about using it as an aspect of my work, I think this opens some possibilities for me when I create my final piece.
My idea consists of creating a T-shirt that is a synthesis of the four cultures. On the shirt, there will be graphics that include QR codes (4 to be exact). Each QR code will link to a song/webpage that is a representative of the culture to me. The goal is to create a multi-medium piece that is a manifestation of who I am, culturally. Hee Eun’s rendition of my theme gave me a new way of looking at the piece I will create and that it, in and of itself, is healing.
