Int. Seminar 1 – End of Semester Reflection

Over the course of this semester, I had the opportunity to develop my writing and connect my visual work with my writing.

Firstly, I love writing. The ability to craft individual letters into words that are then ordered to express a certain idea or concept; that in and of itself is a pleasure to be a part of. So when we were given free rein to express ourselves creatively rather than analytically I was very excited about it. Not only was I challenged by the projects themselves but I felt motivated to try and do better with the motivation I gained from doing something I enjoyed and from the professor themself.

The connection to Studio also proved to be a very beneficial aspect of the Parsons First Year experience as it allowed me to bring what I had in Seminar to a visual medium. As a result, I was able to create pieces that I am proud of. One, in particular, is the first project where my experience at an ancient Bahraini Water Temple, which I translated into a mandala that portrayed my “true self.” I had never taken something that I had wrote and created a visual out of it but this experience showed me that creativity, no matter the medium, can influence another and that the most powerful and interesting come out of such situations.

Mandala: True Self

In all, I found this class to be very worthwhile and I will miss the dynamic we had. I look forward to what else is ahead.
