First of all, my three domains are color, fashion and makeup. My initial question is What is the position of color, lighting and makeup in a fashion show? The insights I have made so far this semester are my three domains are definitely deeply connect to each other, and a fashion show would not exist without them, also the word “makeup” means more than cosmetics such as lipstick or powder, it also means the composition or constitution of something. I would like to write a complete essay to explain the importance and position of my domains in a fashion show for those people who want to do fashion. I’m investigating my domains by searching online, and reading magazines. By now I have a couple of relevant sources and I’m keep researching.

The Buchanan’s piece I picked from Brooklyn museum is “Medicine Woman” (1993). This piece is a female form objects covered with different colors of paints that made out multi-materials such as empty bottles, fabrics and woods. Buchanan’s piece is really different from my works, first of all I don’t like to use a lot of colors because it kind of distract me from the work it own. Also this piece is an actual human size which is also what I don’t usually does. I don’t use a lot of lightings in my work so is Buchanan in this piece. I do makeup a lot and I can tell that Buchanan used a little makeup on the female’s face.  The perspective of this work is hinting at bodily limitations, my perspective was this is a women who save other people’s life because she’s covering with red and she got empty bottles hanging on her body. The choice of color can be really effective to the work, I must be careful.

Another work I picked from Brooklyn Museum is “Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man” (1994) by Deborah Kass. The author combined 24 times of a portrait of himself and colored each portrait differently. To me it looks influenced by Andy Warhol, after research I found out it actually was inspired by Andy Warhol. This is a very colorful piece, there are more than ten colors, it caught my eyes at the first place. The perspective of this work is to asserts her own identity as a female artist, it is very close to what I thought so.
