OPERATION OBJECT

  • What did you enjoy?

– Having to learn a new skill, wood carving, was probably my favorite part of the final product as the general construction of it outside of that was relatively basic, unlike my past projects.

  • What was challenging? And how did you overcome these challenges?

-The wood carving, although my favorite part was also probably the most challenging piece of this project besides the development of my idea. Some Youtube videos helped me with the struggles of carving against the grain easily though.

  • Based on the feedback, what would you do next? Or what would you change?

– If I were to go back and do this assignment again I think I would find an aesthetically pleasing way to add strapsPerhaps having access to a smaller drill bit might’ve fixed this problem. Another thing I would change if I could go back would be the fasteners I used to connect the pieces of wood. In my final, I only used wood glue when I had initially planned on adding a mortise and tenon joint, wood glue, and nails. If I really wanted to wear this “shoe” regularly, these fasteners would be a must but as I wasn’t so concerned with its functionality, I settled when I wish I hadn’t.

  • What other projects inspired you and why?

-Skye’s corset was one of my favorite pieces of the day. On top of being a really beautiful final product, she gave these pants an entirely new life and really took on the essence of the project head-on. This piece was beautifully constructed as well. With plenty of time to myself in quarantine, I’m tempted to make one of my own.
