Bridge 1: Artist Statement_02/08/18

Artist Statement

For this project I was forced a little out of my comfort zone and was asked to focus on interpersonal observation and research. The idea of Simultaneous Perception is the basis for most of Bridge 1. Simultaneous Perception can be briefly explained by the notion that you are simply aware of the fact that you are observing something and because of this you focus on all aspects of what makes an experience real for you. This can sensory input, time and or circumstances but all factors contribute to your perception of an object/place.

For my questions I chose to ask business related questions that focused on the how and why aspects of artwork is used for buildings. I touched on some major concerns such as marketing and logistics but I also chose to question the artwork itself. This gave me a window into why someone might create something so peculiar and for what reason. My visual pieces reflect both my experience regarding Simultaneous Perception and interconnectedness of the questions I came up with.  My favorite piece is the NYC Artistry Permit (featured above) as I think it is an interesting way of communicated the idea that building owners have to get approval to install artwork in the city even if its on their own buildings. Overall, I am happy with my work but wish I had a better source material to work with.
