Bridge 3: Artist Statement

As a designer I think it is important to understand the inner workings of whatever medium you decide to utilize for your artwork. My area of study is programming and design for the web. In order to write the best code and design the best user experiences I need to stay up to date and constantly learn new technologies that optimize the developing/designing process. Blockchain Technology is another one of those technologies that I can use to make my websites more secure, performant and accessible. My research on Blockchain began before this project as I was learning how to implement its functionality into a web project. While researching and developing I learned the basics of how Blockchain could be implemented in the web but also how it could be applied to other mediums/systems. Mainly how it could revolutionize global trade and possibly remove the need for banks. Out of this initial finding emerged my thesis statement and direction for the bridge 3 project. I found multiple sources that were really beneficial to learning Blockchain and could be integrated into my project as primary and secondary sources. One source that helped the most in understanding why Blockchain was so revolutionary and important for consumers today was a TedTalk given by leading Blockchain expert Bettina Warburg. I drew a lot of concepts from her talk and integrated them into a physical form with my curiosity box. This project has allowed me to explore something I am extremely interested in and may even apply everyday in the future while simultaneously learning the process involved in drafting, revising, and critiquing a scholarly research paper.
