Colorpong – Ascension

*Disclaimer: I understand that this post does not adhere to the specifications of the assignments in terms of choosing an individual artist.*

Recently, I have gained an appreciation for technology in the world and more specifically with regards to access to data. Often I think about how as an individual living in the 21st century I have access to virtually any piece of information. Literally, if I wanted to right now I could open a new tab in my internet browser and enter a search keyword for “information systems” and be given a list of millions of websites filled with data explaining all aspects of information systems. Yet so many of peers seem to be completely oblivious to this functionality. Either that or they simply are not interested in taking advantage of the data’s capabilities. I am very inspired by people and companies that try and promote the idea of data and its accessibility. Many people and companies choose to promote it through services and products, targeted towards education and institutions. Very rarely do I see data utilized for art. A royalty free image company based in Hamburg, Germany is generating vector based images that are based off of data-sets and look incredibly stunning. When I see their work and think about how data has impacted society , the word ascension always comes to mind. The notion that we as a civilization are rising to a more important position and or higher caliber of intellectual capability.
