In the start of the semester, fashion was just a form of expression on the body. It was fabrics, silhouettes, and forms that everyone wears. I did not know much else about fashion other than the fact that everyone has their own sense of style and expresses themselves no matter what they wear. Now, after taking this course, I realized there is a lot of underlying parts that take place in the practice of dressing and fashion. I feel that everything in one’s life takes part in dress and there is a reason for everything in one’s closet. Susan Kaiser stated in the book Fashion and Culture: Cultural Studies, Fashion studies,
“Key to a cultural studies approach is the idea that gender, race/ ethnicity, sexuality, nationality, class, and age/ generation and other subject positions organize identities, social relations, and the objects and images that culture produces (Newton Kaiser, and Ono 1998).”
