Bridge one project – studio

After a whole night of sleep, I was really well-rested and quite refreshed in the morning. My alarm went off twice, and I finally woke up on the third one. I like to sleep with my curtains open so that I can see the sky as soon as I open my eyes; “It is a pretty nice weather” I thought to myself. At 9:30 a.m., I got up and dressed myself. Thinking about the trip I was going to take to Tenement Museum today, I felt little excited and maybe was even tiny bit nervous. Growing up, I have not visit many museums, not as I remember, thus, this trip really meant a lot to me.

About 1:00 p.m., my friend and I got on the subway heading toward my destination—Tenement Museum. The subway was very crowded that my friend and I only had one thought: get out of the train as soon so possible. After 10 stops, we finally were there at the station Essex Street, which is the nearest one to the museum.

From across the street, I can see the building which was made of red brick. It was nothing different from the other buildings that are around. Walking into the building, I was not surprised of what I see. It was like a book store, just like the pictures on the website. I liked a lot of the jewelries and hats in the store, but they were little too expensive, so I didn’t buy them. We booked our ticket for the 15:00 p.m. tour, and we sat down in the Starbucks for some rest.

At 3:00 p.m., we met our tour guide. She was a young lady, and approximately in her 20s. She had a really clear tone and big smile on her face when she saw us. “ Hey, How is going? Are you guys excited for the tour?” She asked us. I was little sleepy by then, even though I had a huge cup of coffee, but I still answered with a energetic voice: “ Yes, of course we are excited.” The lady introduced herself in a few short sentences, and instead of taking us upstairs, we went to another building which was unexpected. We were told on the way that we cannot take out our phones and take pictures or videos in the building. I was really upset about that, not only because I lost the chance to take some great photos, but also this is my Project for my studio class, and I have to have something to make up an video. We walked around the corner of the street, and we entered in a relatively small building.

It was nothing as I thought it would be. In my imagination, this place would be lot bigger then what it is. The stairs can only go on one person at a time, and the whole building was dark, too, and it smelled like old house. Our tour is based on a Jewish family who lived there in the 1800s. I searched room around, they are all very small, and a lot of things were definitely rebuilt and looked brant new. My friend and I were disappointed.

We sat down on the chairs she gave us, and listened to her story about this specific family. To be honest, I felt little board after a while. We went to three rooms, and all we do is sat there and listen, and we were not allowed to touch anything.  The only interesting thing I found was that in one of the rooms, there are fabrics all around and even have a already-made dress. The old-fashioned sewing machine really caught my eyes. During the tour, I do notice a guy in our group, he was about in his 60s or 70s, and was tearing a little while she was describing how hard the live was back then for the Jewish people. He looked like a Jewish to me.

The tour ended at 4:15 p.m., it was an hour and 15 minutes tour, but it seems to me that half of my day was gone. My friend and I went back to the main building and got back our stuff and we decided to go home.

Not every trip you take in your life will makes you feel interesting and worthwhile.

Even though the trip was not as interesting as I expected, I still received a lot of information about the history, and I think that is enough. It was definitely a good experience in my life.
