This project is inspired by the topic “Message” in the bottle. It is about traditions and tea.
There are 24 solar terms in the Chinese tradition. A solar term is any of 24 points in traditional East Asian lunisolar calendars that matches a particular astronomical event or signifies some natural phenomenon.
In Chinese tradition, people drink different types of teas in different solar terms or seasons. The seasons and the solar term is a way to record time.
I make a collection of 12 types of teas and booklet which include images and details of these teas.
The teas are in the test tubes and placed in the order of the solar term.
I take the photo of the teas in the teacup, and on each photo, there’s the Chinese expression of each solar term. Each information page includes a brief history of the tea, the reason why people drink this type of tea in this season, and the way to brew this tea (including volume of water, temperature, etc.)
The cover is made of basswood, and the book title is laser cut.
