I wanted delicacy and strength mirrored in my design of a pretty but practical shirt dress. I designed the prints and they are in greyscale, not only to preserve the simplicity, but also to keep the emphasis on the lines of the print. I mimicked the duality I saw in grass with two contrasting materials: whistle crepe and Roselyn satin. This dress has a clean and straight silhouette with a deep V-cut in the centre front and elevated slits at both sides. The overall dress is made in Roselyn satin with a bold cell-structure print. The centre front of the dress forms a long triangle and is cut in crepe with an organic stripe print. Thin cutouts on both sides of the triangle kick in a dash of sexiness and surprise. Underneath the dress, I paired short shorts with a print corresponding to the front triangle.

This second outfit fully expresses the two attributes grass represents: strength and softness. The dress combines a whimsical component with crisp edges, playing with the flexibility of grass, as well as the sophistication. This dress has a rigid collar that sits straight up on top of the shoulders. Below, I created a sleeveless, relaxed shirt top in crepe using a chain print in greyscale. Continuing down, the skirt is asymmetric and fitted on the right and voluminous on the left. The shirt top is connected to the skirt with an organic, curved seam line. The fitted skirt is cut in satin with the cell-structure print, while the tutu is made of crepe with the chain-like print and padded with many layers of tulle underneath. On the back of the dress, I created two curved cutouts on both sides of the shoulders. This design contains a balance of playfulness and refinement which is suitable for women who favour elegant, simple designs with unexpected details.

Playing with different aspects of grass, I came up with a look that maximized the romanticism and distilled the edginess. From the first dress to the third, I created an evolution of different views of grass. This design contains more drama and fancy. It is a strapless, ankle-length dress with an enlarged cell-structure print. On the top of the dress is an elemental, nonobjective cape with a chain print and was made loose to drape on the dress. The silhouette of the ball gown skirt is constructed using five meters of tulle to create fullness. This design plays with the strong contrast between amorphous and defined silhouettes. The sculptural cape represents the idea of enduring hardships while the gown expresses internal delicacy. I styled the outfit with a sleek, high ponytail inspired by the traditional Samurai topknot and an extreme smoky eyeshadow to accentuate the Japanese influence.
