Deconstructivist Architects Response

At this scene, the French philosopher Jaques Derrida, said “ free architecture from what it is. [It] can engage in new relation to other art.” The statement he made truly made an impression. For so long, we’ve associated and limited architectures as shelter. We simply view them for practical and functional uses only, but we have forgotten that they are also a form of art. Architectures are enormous sculptures that humans build to terrorize one’s property. Architectures are decorative ornaments that we created to embellish our neighbourhoods. Architectures are journals that recorded hundreds of years of history. We are so familiar with its purposes and functions, we have ignored the relation of art to architecture. Similarly, fashion is considered as cloth that we use to keep warm. What about the artistic standpoint of it? Fashion is just as expressive as paintings and sculptures. Just because it was afforded a second function, does not mean that it shouldn’t be given the same attention and appreciation like any of the other forms of art. Fashion and architecture are so similar. They both are sculptures in their own way, and they are forgotten as a form of art because of its intimacy with us.
