Bridge 1-2

What If from Natasha:

  • What if the eyes are opened and have different expressions?
  • What if the sculptures are arranged differently?
  • what if it’s not a sculpture but an illustration?

Introduction:

My theme is Identity, which is about different skin color. New York is a city that has a really diverse culture. We will able to see all people from different country. The original sculpture was installed in Paris. Base on these What If questions, I want to show the relationship of people, and inclusive in different skin color by illustration work and layer masks.

 Explanation:

Base on the What If questions from my partner, I create a digital illustration in a different order from the original piece. In my illustration, I depict the characters in different emotion and facial expression. Since they are all naked, it helps me focus more on the difference between their skin colors. However, in the original piece, their skin color is less distinct. So I also re-highlight the skin color in my illustration.

Second version:

Pop up Book

Explanation:

From the critique in class, I further think about the relationship of the characters(people) and layers( different skin colors) in my first draft. I got the inspiration from a Pop-up Book by David A. Carter. It is interesting to use paper to show the relationship of subjects in a stereoscopic way. Comparing with my first draft, it is not only a illustration but also arranged differently in three demention.

Reflection:

What I learned from this project was the way to generate my thoughts, to create during the process of researching.
