Diptychs

Diptych no1 : For the signifier chosen last week

The reason i chose to explore Teddy Bears is because, It’s acceptable for women to still like cute stuffed teddy bears but not for men. It is okay in childhood for both genders though.

Teddy bear does continue to be marketed towards women (not girls) and not towards boys.

I used Illustrator to make the artwork and diptych and decided to make it more masculine and include the stereotypes for boys/mens.

Diptych no2: New signifier

This artwork is a diptych from the signifier of J. Howard Miller’s “we can do it” poster. I decided to make a poster of my own which would be for both the genders not just for one, thus the “they” and the difference in colours in the diptych. I used photography as a medium in this as I felt that it would be best suitable for a poster.

Reflection after critique- What i heard in critique and from talking to Brian, I realised to use different materials to explore my artwork and to make it more visually interesting and to make it relate more to the topic.

For the next 3 diptychs I plan to explore a wide range of materials and i also plan to make my artwork relate to each other. I also plan to have meaning for every detail in the artwork.
