Forgeries : an exercise in revisionist future history

For this project we were asked to create a “fake” artist including their biography and artist’s statement while using inspiration from a real artist. We were asked to expand on the the work of the real artist, using either the colour theme, a motif or the overall subject to make new work that was to be chosen for an exhibition by an imaginary curator. This work had to be reimagined with different kinds of materials and presented along with a press release, earlier work and recent works.

This was my first “multiple perspectives” project of the semester. It was extremely interesting to be working in a group of people with different aspirations and directions for this project. However, from the get go we divided the work equally among ourselves while also exchanging ideas, perspectives, likes and dislikes. Each person created 2 art pieces each and together we decided on the background and character of Sebastien Ross. We had a great time developing this fictional artist while also bonding with each other on a personal level.
