Bridge Project 2

The difference in font emphasizes on the literal and symbolic meaning, differences and similarities between the person who the sculpture was created for and the piece itself.

(The sculpture that I created)

Stemless evergreen plant native to East Africa has compound leaves rising up from its rhizomes,

Surviving for months and more in a drought or at the dorms without family since high school,

ZZ both formally and conceptually represents Ye.

One needs well-draining soil to grow,

The other is connected to her ethnicity and background.

One is an indoor plant,

The other is an introvert who hates to travel.

The geometrical plexiglass container with coins beneath the roots of the plant, symbolically represents her cultural connection,

People in China usually save a significant sum of their monthly incomes,

Similarly, Ye saves for her future.

Her ambitions drive her to pursue her dreams and achieve goals she’s set,

Green the color of life, is associated with ambition and stability.

(The sculpture that Ye created for me)

The abstract, circular shape mimics openness and transparency,

Holding the hand of children,

Innocent and helpless,

Passionately, over expressive like the glitter and hot glue,

Appearing like a human chameleon with each look,

Pushing boundaries like the shapeless bronze wire.

The intertwined leaves wrapped gracefully around the structure,

Holding it together,

Family and culture, strengthening her form.
