Instagram

This system intrigues me the most as I want to look into the social media industry and its impact on tourism. I have chosen Instagram to narrow it down. Since the past few years, Instagram has played a significant role in not only the media industry but has also changed the way people travel. With its emergence, travelling seems to have become easier in New York City. Tourists know what they want and where to go. The city invites travelers, through visually pleasing Instagram blogs and pictures, who seek authentic experiences and admire the diversity of culture, art, design and cuisine. I look forward to doing research on how Instagram has increased the tourism as people travel to attractions like the Flatiron Building, Brooklyn Bridge and etc. just to take pictures and post them online for likes and comments. This has, without a doubt impacted the city economically but has its drawbacks too. An example of this would be the increase in population which eventually increased consumerism and generats money for most industries, but the pollution caused has also changed the environment.

Animal Shelters and Rescues

This is one of my favorite topics of discussion. I have previously done a lot of social work and rescued a few animals in Pakistan but would love to know how the system works in a dynamic, big city like New York. I haven’t seen a single stray animal since August when I first came here. Most importantly I look forward to opening an animal shelter in Pakistan one day and this is the best opportunity to do research and get more involved.

Child Health Services

What is healthcare like in New York City? Is there availability of comprehensive healthcare insurance coverage for uninsured workers and their families? Where do homeless children seek help from? Questions like these used to arouse in my mind several times but I never had the time to look into this system and how it functions. With this project I could seize the opportunity to do in depth research to get to the core of the issue.
