Studio Final- Magazine

Story of Cities: Beijing

My project focuses on understanding the history of Chinese religion and philosophy- in specific the three teachings of China: Taoism, Confucianism and Buddhism. All three of these teachings, blur the lines between religion and philosophy and have significantly integrated themselves into the beliefs and principles of the Chinese people. What I will be exploring is the way the architecture and urban planning of China’s capital, Beijing, reflects these teachings and consequently how that has influenced China’s social hierarchy and structure

I have decided to create a informative magazine that will embody my topic statement and focus.

Final project:

Digital Magazine-

Conclusion

Firstly, I really would have liked to have my magazine printed but because of issues I had with the design lab appointments, I could not print it. There were also other elements like translucent vellum paper that I would have liked to include in the magazine to reinforce the idea of how some information is overlooked or distorted/ biased. Nevertheless, it was a very fun and experimental project for me to not only learn more about the culture and history in my own country but with designing a magazine too. In the future, once I have learned more about typography with my major, I would like to incorporate more of that into the magazine.
