Into to Fashion Post #1

The first aphorism I connected with was; “fashion does not define. It is instead a term that demands definition.” and the second aphorism that I related to was when Christopher Breward spoke about the intense personal nature of fashion.

Fashion is such as personal and fluid area, Breward’s statement is globally relevant, which is why I agree with it. Look at any culture and you will see dress that reflects the culture. Further into that idea, we can see fashion used as a way to tell stories through spiritual dress, a very personal subject that touches people in an intense way. Personally this Aphorism speaks to me, I have always used fashion to create a context that I want other people to pick up on a use when interacting with me. When I was younger I was withdrawn and shy and used dark menacing clothing to create a wall between myself and everyone else. I wanted to be left alone and my fashion reflected that.

The Aphorism about fashion demanding definition I found to be extremely empowering, it brings the power back to ourselves, not letting the designers and image bearers dictate our looks. This concept is the entire reason I am here working for a degree in fashion design. Currently the world of fashion seems to revolve around consumerism and the designer and whatever they say goes. However when I look at fashion I see a chance for amazing communal art. I love when people take my work and style it in their own way and wear it on their unique body. Fashion is like a physical conversation between two souls.
