Memory Jar

The main purpose of my memory jar is personal reflection. Living such a fast paced life has forced me to speed up certain processes that I consider very important to my well being. Through this jar I hope to remember small moments that are important but easily forgotten. Certain aspects of this jar will help me check in and reflect on my mental states, even if I’m not in them anymore. Inside the jar there is a fishnet tight with attached wire holding pieces of paper that have song titles on them. From these songs I can pull memories and attached feelings, which fulfills the idiom, “things to pull from.” Inside the tight there is a piece of glossy paper which has a grid. The grid is a place to put miniature daily sketches of objects or words that remind me of something I experienced that day. My stickers represent my music interests, film favorites, and important symbols. At the bottom of my jar there are flowers, a scarf, and an earring which are all things that I like to collect, fulfilling the theme, “get to know me.” At the bottom of the sock there is a stack of lavender candies which I have always continued to buy and carry with me everywhere after receiving them as a gift. For the time capsule theme I have projected videos of memories that embody nature and concert experiences that are sentimental to me. Lastly, to put a lid on it, I made a foam core lid that I covered with lace fabric that has been prominent in most of my projects throughout the semester. I painted the lid yellow because it is a color that I always go back to when trying to stay grounded and content.
