Soundwalk NYC Tour

As we made our way through Central Park, we had trouble navigating the map and figured that once something drew our attention, we’d follow that and see if it was one of the attractions on the audio tour. Not long after weaving our way down the pathways in the park, we were drawn to the carousel by it’s music. Carousel’s always take me back to my time as a child and the memories I have from going to Jantzen Beach, a shopping center in Portland, OR, where I grew up. Those memories that I have remind me of the times I got to shop with my mom for special occasions, or she’d buy me a present, but it was always special if we got to ride on that historic carousel.

After listening to Kelly Rippa talk about the history of the carousel in Central Park, it brought me back to those memories as a kid, and amazed me that riding a carousel hasn’t lost it’s charm.

When we first arrived at the carousel the only people on the ride were two older women, probably in their late 60s. Carousel’s seem to be timeless, the music seems classic, and the experience throughout time has stayed relatively the same.

I thought it was quite interesting that even after fires and destruction of multiple carousels in the park, they kept coming back.

This carousel really brought back my memories from a child through the music and even the sounds of children getting excited to get up on the intricately painted horses and go for a quick ride. I could remember my own excitement as I listened to theirs.

Even after getting to sit up on a horse myself just a few days ago, I was just as happy.
