Bridge Project #2

The Idea:

Kessler and I wanted to create something that represented how we felt when blindfolded and with the earplugs in. For us, that meant showing how, when the earplugs were in, the world around us felt like we we watching a tv, or the visuals we had only stretched as far as our eyes could see. But when we had the blindfold on we felt like we were surrounded by sounds on all sides. There was directional movement placing us in the center or intersection of all different types of people doing lots of different things.

The Plan:

We decided on making a TV that from far away looked like it just showed a flat image, but from close up, it was a little scene that showed a figure sitting on a bench surrounded by the image.

The Final Project:

The Interaction:

The Construction:

We printed the photo of Washington Square Park on the Plotters and cut them out and pasted them onto cardboard which we taped together. The small figure is made out sculpy clay and the bench is made out of small wooden sticks and hot glue. The outside of the TV is made of black foam board and we used black tape to attach them to each other.

The Challenges:

The one thing that we struggled with the most was figuring out how to stretch the image properly and make it appear to be 2 dimensional from far away. I tried different configurations trying to piece together different images from each of the angles, but because of the natural lighting, it was difficult to keep the lighting and exposure consistent and then seamlessly stitch the images together. We decided to just take one image and stretch 4 parts of it to the same dimension.
