Museum Of Reclaimed Urban Space Reflection

Our field trip was to a museum of urban punk rock culture in New York which served as a community centre during the after effects of Hurricane Sandy. The owner of the establishment acts as a community leader who overseas the more sustainable functions of the area. The community openly opposes the influence of the city over their homes and they build what they need themselves. In this they have built three distinct parks, each with their own unique aspect to serve as therapeutic leisure areas for the community. These parks encourage more eco-friendly interaction in the neighbourhood with compost bins, open medicine gardens, bee farms, etc.
