Oscar: If you were famous, how would you live your life and what would you be famous for?
Daisy: I’d want to be famous for whatever career I choose, I want to put in the work myself and be humble I wouldn’t work for the fame, it would just be a bonus to whatever I’m doing.

Daisy’s Portrait from the MET
Oscar: What stands out to you?
Daisy: I like the technique
Oscar: How about the texture?
Daisy: I like the texture, it’s not too smooth or too rough
Daisy: It’s not perfect just like how nothing in life is perfect and the piece is showing those abstractions of life
Oscar: How about the color?
Daisy: It’s simple paint, no color
Oscar: How does it make you feel?
Daisy: It’s very relaxing and pleasing to look at, there’s no expression giving it a calming feeling, no eyes or smile
Oscar: What else?
Daisy: It has an “austere hairstyle” so maybe this was for an event or something fancy
Oscar: How do you relate to it?
Daisy: I relate to it, it’s not too out there, simple and clean, I feel like I’m not too noisy or out there in terms of appearance

Reflection
Despite the museum trip being short and not being able to pick a portrait out of even one third of the options, it allowed me to see what kind of artwork Daisy is drawn to and how it did and did not relate to her as a person. The bridge between art and us allows us to understand the subliminal that we are not able to look at in the mirror to discover, it uncovers the subconscious in a way that only art can do, for what is art if it does not teach us something about ourselves? Allowing stimulation to overwhelm us and simply react at first, then pushing deeper into our thoughts on the piece is a reflection of how we understand ourselves. With this we can begin to understand others as well, paying attention to the nuances and abstractions they pull from art that place their mind on a plate for us.
Forming questions and regretting questions or not pushing further is important to reconcile with, how can regret be avoided and mistakes be embraced, that atmosphere cannot be recreated. After the interview I regretted not pressing more, in the moment I did not want to pry or make Daisy feel uncomfortable, especially after her answer to my question “How do you lean into discomfort?” How can vulnerability be reached with no established barriers or safety nets? To trust someone with answering random questions is to acknowledge that you may be uncomfortable due to the unnatural aspect of a required interview and it is on those with the questions to make it feel natural.
