Inspired in Maya Lin’s pins and needles art, I decided to show the number of violent deaths that occur in Venezuela in a similar way. In my research I found out that Venezuela is going through a humanitarian crisis nowadays because of the poor government management. Besides the shortages of electricity and food, Venezuelans live in fear their day to day life because of the amount of robberies and kidnappings that occur daily.
84 people die a violent death in Venezuela daily. I wanted to show this number in a significant way rather than just statistics. This is why I decided to use the pins, for every death that happens daily I would place a pin in a wooden canvas with Venezuela’s map in it. Each pin will leave a trace in the Venezuelan map meaning that even though when the humanitarian crisis resolves, many people had to die while fighting for it.
