Sustainable Systems Final : 50years of Archive

Story of 50 years of Archive

50 years are not something I can grasp that easily. I just turned 20, haven’t even lived half of that 50 years we are trying to continue something. 50 years ago, mom was 6. 50 years later I will be 70, older than mom now.I live in the age that so many things happen so quickly, communicating with someone across the world, getting so many information at once, and just typing “1967” will tell me what was happening 50 years ago. I made this archive to remember what happens in my lifetime. Time flies by and often I forget what actually happened and what has changed over time. I am borne in the time era when many things change so quickly and many things updates so quickly. Even my major is new, didn’t exist 10years ago. Many things in life are changing out darting and will go outdated if world progress as it is right now. I wanted to keep a record of what is happing in my lifetime to remember but also o see how things are changing, so I wouldn’t be like my grandmother who always same “it was different, I forgot how, but it was”, and be able to tell next generation how things changed personally than a just general fact of changing worldwide. This object will be done, become complete till 50 years later when I turn 70. Will be continued to be work in progress to whiteness the time. It will keep me reminded that I live in the time of Anthropology and will record how world and myself change, progress, and adapt to the changes that are coming up.

By recording the weather on my birthday every year so I will be able to see the climate change over 50 years. But also it will keep a record of what kind of technique to be eco-friendly changes. Technology updates and some new techniques might come up but at the same time, some techniques might go outdated because of environmental change. So over years, it will increase the voice toward preserving what we have and remind us what we depend on and what we need to do to protect those environments we depend on.

The pen and booklet that is included in the “50 years of Archive” is carefully chosen. I have been using many calligraphy inks lately for my work and I learned that cheap inks or modern inks have many chemicals that could harm the environment. But because it’s been existing for a long time, we can go back to natural ink that is made out of accessible food. And I hope this food will not go distinctly due to the environmental change, and I need to act more to protect these old techniques that are passed down for a long time. The booklet I choose is made out of stone. It only creates a 60% less carbon footprint in the production because it is made out of stone rather than trees and it is 100% recyclable. It is perfect for the ink I will be making, also waterproof and will not absorb oil, moreover it also stretches before it tears. Which is perfect for the upcoming unpredictable weather. Also buying the book from there will donate to plant a tree. The Pen is an antique wood pen that I can change the neb as I need to, it will last forever if I take good care and will remind me to keep using what I have and what could be passed down to the next generation.
