Artist Statement

As a human being, I am very internalized. I catalogue all my thoughts and feelings and archive them in my mind. Most of it, including my most personal truths, have yet to hit the fresh air outside of my own body. I am no robot, but I prefer privacy to publicity and believe somethings exist better with a sense of mystery. What I create depends on what moves me in any given moment, so I often struggle with trying to nail down my ideas and define them. I like that if something is designed well enough, it can be appreciated on its own without necessarily knowing its story, and that is what I try to do in my work. I have a deep love for the physical craft of making. Although, in theory, the construction of a design is more rigid and less emotional, I find the tangibility to be the more fulfilling aspect. I like exploring labored techniques in simple designs with fabrics that can hold their own. Design for me stems from a very personal and singular level despite fashion being a very public expression, and I am on my way to finding that balance.
