I am studying privacy in fashion because I want to find out how it is possible to use a public form of expression to protect ones privacy, in order to promote dressing for the self. We use dress as a way to create a facade for ourselves, and I would like to explore using this as a tool to conceal and perhaps guard from harmful aspects of society rather than boast oneself.
This topic is rather theoretical, so I was unsure where to start with images. I chose an image from the 2018 Golden Globes showing the Time’s Up movement with all the women in black, because while not necessarily about personal privacy, this was a very powerful way to use fashion and dress as a statement with purpose that promotes betterment of society.
