Photo Roman: Journal Entry #18

A photo roman is a story told through still key images combined with sound and music to create ambiance. They are occasionally told with narration or subtitles.

My project is about a young girl who writes a journal entry to her late father about her memories of them together going to museums across New York City, and her experience going to one for the first time without him.

I used Premiere to sequence all of my photographs and manipulate sound files. I mainly used transitions in the sound to fade in and out and kept the photographs as hard cuts one to the next, with different time values for some of the photographs. For the text, I chose to use a moving type that appeared as if the young girl was writing her thoughts into her journal as the video went on.

I learned a lot about layering sounds and music and transitions between sound and how that interacts with the photography.
