Our introductory assignment to this studio course on “Fake” was to create a list of items that a partner and I deemed to be “real” or “fake”. Within the “fake” list, we put items that were not tangible and didn’t take up real space in the physical world. (Things like stories, memories, etc.) In the “real” list, we put items that were physical, such as people, tools, etc. Following this, my partner and I collaborated with two other people to create a drawing based on one item in our “fake” list. We chose to use social media as our “fake” item. Following that, we created the large scale version and made that an Instagram post with an advertisement, a person who had the supplement and a filtered image. This was our idea of “fake” because the supplement was an advertisement. The second was a placebo effect where someone had the vitamin and thought it worked, and the final image was a snapchat filter to alter appearance. After doing the drawing, we decided to outline it in marker and that was the end of the project.
