[Bridge 2] Response to process of Interviewing

Talking with Farida made me feel as if I were talking with myself from different cultural background – we had so many things in common, like our major, interests, personalities and so on, and this made the interview so interesting.

While asking questions to my partner, I tried to connect the questions I had and make the conversation smoother if possible. Therefore, although I prepared eleven questions initially, few of them were already answered within the conversation, so I ended up with only 8 sets of questions and answers. By asking questions to Farida, I wanted to get the overall story of her life and her personality, and I believe that I did it quite successfully. Especially through the questions like “Do you believe in any religion?”, and “What is the most important experience from your previous schools?”, I was able to get more information about her than what I had expected to get.

One thing that I did not like about the interview was that I wasn’t able to fully elaborate my ideas when I was answering to Farida’s question. Sorting out the thoughts inside myself and moving them into English within few seconds was very hard for me since it was the first time doing such thing for me. For some of the questions, I even thought that I could have delivered my thoughts in better way if I used different words afterwards. I hope Farida had got the grasp about my personality and identity through that interview though.
