Cross-Course LP Post

This is a final reflection post assigned to me in Integreative Seminar 2.

The most relevant connection I’ve found between my final project and the rest of my work is the theme of meditation and spirituality. I find this interesting because last semester this theme was much more faint in my overall body of work. The research in seminar helped me to better articulate my inspiration for this project. Going throughout this thinking process helped me to remember to always make connections between doing something aesthetically pleasing but also purposeful (which I consider important in my work). For my final piece I created a geodesic dome out of cardboard which required research about the dimensions and proportions required to create a specific diameter within a 2V Geodesic Dome. I felt the turning point to wrapping the work together was I first began to deduce a thesis because with the guided direction I felt my vision of the project increased and I was able to nail it down quickly after the thesis shook out. I wish I could have built more domes so I could have done the video experiment on several people at once, but I definitely didn’t have enough time to do that. I’m actually 77% sure I’m doing a next iteration to this project with a group of my friends who are artists in which they will display their work and invite people to come through the MediDOME Experience. I’m going to change the project by making my own meditation music and guided meditation and incorporate the crystals more physically into the experience. This project is not strongly related to any work this semester but it does remind me of a video I did for Time last semester. In this video it seems I was just beginning to get a footing on my path and where it would lead me. And in this final project it really seems I have come full circle in realizing and being certain in my path…this had led me somewhere I could not have imagined when making that video in Time class. The video is embedded below. Some themes I am noticing are spirituality, 3D elements, the Black experience, and video-making.
