Studio Final – Redefined: The Military Coat

For this studio project I found inspiration from my past experience in the Thai military. As far as uniforms, both genders had the same custom tailored uniform, which introduced the aspect of androgynous. I wanted to expand on the aspect of androgynous fashion into my coat. During occasions like ceremonies and important dates, as reserved forces we have no formal uniform to put on during the ceremonies. We tend to attend these occasions in our dirty uniforms. I decided to create a over coat which is meant for these occasions where both men and women can wear. The design displays androgynous through material and silhouette where wool and silk was used. The minimalism expresses my identity as a designer and conveys the aspect that as reserved forces we do not posses or want to earn a ranking in the military. This as well relates to my seminar research of masculinity in womenswear and the influence of military in fashion.
