The skill my partner Yerilynn shared with me is her native language, Spanish. We agreed to translate the sound poem Yerilynn created for the project. Firstly, I wrote down the poem in my sketchbook on the left page and had Yerilynn translate it on the right. We went over the pronunciations and different meanings a few times until I was comfortable translating the poem in my own writing on the lefthand side of my sketchbook. The experience was an intimate view into an essential aspect of Yerilynn’s culture and identity.
