Wire Hand

I use three types of wires to craft the 3-D hand. First of all, I use aluminum wire to outline the hand because it is easy to band. Then I use steel wire to create spirals for each finger as well as the palm. There are 6 pieces of them. Steel has excellent tenacity so it will form good curvatures. The process of making this artwork is like car assembling; different parts need to go to the right place and fit with each other, which I feel exciting and challenging. Finally, I use 28 gauge thin steel wire to connect the steel wire with the aluminum one. I chose a black card paper as the base of the piece because of the high contrast between the background and foreground will make my hand pop up.

The glasses fit right into the empty space of my hand, and they together form the shape of an eye. I hope that pare of glasses could wipe away all the blurriness in my life.
