My name is Toby Kim and I am a 22-year-old NYC-based mixed media artist that works with mediums: product and portrait photography, illustration, bookmaking, and screen printing onto created natural-dye fabrics. These variety of mediums are the tools to my observations and documentary process that I enjoy producing: images, drawings, paintings, photographs, and film. The places I’ve called home are Connecticut, Pittsburgh, Shanghai, Seoul, Abu Dhabi, and to now home New York. Having to live abroad my entire life, the vivid life experience of being able to perceive and live in different cultures was imbued in my works. What I create is a reflection of my observations and thoughts of simple yet complex lives as human beings. The inspiration of my work is found by observing and absorbing the environment I am surrounded by.
